GeorgePaul is a ten year old boy in California.  He was diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia on March 29, 2011.  We created this for others to see his story.

He is in tremendous pain.  Here is a link to a video that shows the pain he goes through many times each day.

GeorgePaul Pain – 2011 – Abbreviated Version

Jan. 28 Intense headache
Jan. 31 Earache begins – “Deep in my ear, past the ear drum”
Feb. 1 Kaiser clinic – Ear pain/headache
Feb. 3 Earaches intensify – every 5-25 minute episodes (headache gone)
Feb. 7 Kaiser clinic – Sinusitis; Ceftin
Feb. 14 Kaiser family medicine – Higher level intense pain.5-15 min. episodes; flares and pops. Guafinesen
Feb. 21 Primary Dr. Flonase (Flucticasone)
Feb. 24 ENT oral referral to begin Cefdinir (Omnicef)
Mar. 2 Kaiser Clinic (altitude change of 800 feet – Hysterical, Continuous Pain, writhing. tried benzocaine ear drops
Mar. 6-8 Pain episodes lasting longer – inconsolable during these episodes
Mar. 8 ENT appt., Audiology exam. Normal. No fluid. No infection every present

Trip down the hill (altitude change of 2500 feet) painful but manageable. Walk from car to building, both ways, out of control pain –Drive up the hill – writhing, hyperventilating, sobbing, eyes in and out of focus, extreme pain – choking, almost throwing up.
8:00 p.m. that night – 10-15 minute episode of continuous writhing pain.

Mar. 9 Recording of episodes: 12 intense pain episodes of 3-15 minutes each.
Mar. 10 Fontana – MRI. Reading is normal. Discuss w/Primary Dr. by phone: Try codeine at home.Being outside – he is irrational, out of control in pain. 8 pain episodes
Mar. 11 16 pain episodes in addition to regular bursts of pain.
Mar. 12 5 pain episodes – but one lasted one hour. More continuous pain at a
higher level between the big episodes and the bursts.
Mar. 13 12-13 episodes. Went outside to be with dogs for two hours. Higher
level of continuous pain while outside – but worth it to be with dogs.
Mar. 14 Pain in both ears first two hours upon waking. Continuous pain.
Chiropractor. Adjusted neck–vertebrae was twisted. Possibly nerve pain.
Mar. 15 7 hour episode of pain
Mar. 16 ENT Reading of MRI slight sinus infection in ethnoid. Start Augmentin
Dr. Stine – chiropractor. Laser treatment
Dr. Brown – orthodontist check permanent retainer: not affecting jaw
Mar. 17 Pain episodes changed in the afternoon – fewer/hour more intense level
Mar. 19 High continuous pain level.
Mar. 20 No ear pain. Stabbing pains to neck and chest. Hard to get a breath
Mar. 21 No ear pain. Temples, stabbing pains intermittent. stop taking Augmentin
Mar. 22 Sore chest. Continuing headache. 10:05p.m. Woke up – chest pain, hard to breathe, one sharp ear pain, sleep at 11:30p.m.
Mar.23-28 Headache continued – “throbbing”
Mar. 29 Pediatric Neurology – Diagnosis of Trigeminal Neuralgia.
Driving back up the hill – intense forehead/upper half of head pain
intense waves of pain, crying, sobbing, hyperventilating. Episodes were
not as intense as the ear pain, and lasted for 3 1/2 hours.
Mar. 30 Woke with headache; less severe than yesterday.
Mar.31-Apr7 Headache decreasing daily.
Apr. 9 No pain anywhere!
Apr. 10 Woke up 7 a.m. with intense R. ear pain – location is “just out of sight”.
Steep rises in pain. Advil. No effect. Pain at a “9”, with ‘rises’ to a ‘10’.
Pain stopped at 12:50. Started again at 8:30pm. Fell asleep at 9:45pm
Apr.11-14 Pain continuous at a “9”. Rises doubling in intensity, lasting longer each day. Trileptal started on 11th – 150 mg at night.
Apr. 14 Escalation of pain tonight. HUGE pain episode. “I’m going to die” 40min.
April 15 Emailed Neurologist: Start Trileptal 150 mg twice a day. Give Ativan for severe pain. Gave Ativan twice. Episodes of pain are breaking through. Trouble walking. Glassy eyed – slower to focus and connect with both eye contact and responses to questions.
Apr. 16 4 or 5 short epics – 2-5min. Constant pain level at 9 1/2.
Apr. 17 Enormous Episode of Pain: 10 minutes at 9:35am. (Woke at 8:45am). Gave Ativan. 3 enormous episodes in close succession after an hour and a half on Ativan. 8 – 9:45p.m. – HUGE pain episodes, one after the other, beyond anything we’ve seen so far.

  2. I am praying for you. I too have bad headaches sometimes. I know for me caffine helps, hot coffee and I take generic Fiorecet (butalbitalpapcaff). I dont know that any of this will help you, but I know God knows you and he loves you and be with you in the midst of this.

    I am very sorry you are going through this and I know anyone who would read what you are going through would wish they could take some of the pain for you if they could.

  3. Just wanted you to know that I am praying for GeorgePaul, you and the medical community (including the insurance aspect). Unimaginable. Hour by hour, keep pressing on!

  4. Praying for you all as you go through this difficult trial. May the Lord be glorified and may He give you comfort that surpasses all understanding.
