The world narrows…   10 comments

The periphery diminishes. The literal circle of focus becomes the four of us and the hope we have in Him. GeorgePaul is very conscious of God’s presence. I find him reading his bible. “What are you reading?” “…reading about Moses and how the people wouldn’t obey him.” (Obedience is a common topic of conversation in a ten year old’s life.) 🙂 Later, after reading some of Psalm 139: GP – “God knows everything.” Mom – “Yep, He knows when you lie down in this bed, and when you sit up.” His prayers no longer consist of oft-repeated lines. They are specific, and full of thankfulness. He asks for God to heal him and also thanks God for his family and “I am so thankful for the bible so we can read your words.”

We stop thinking about things that used to be so important…and the world narrows to the number of the pain: it is between 0(no pain) and 10(worst pain possible). He woke up at 7:00 today and is at a 7 still. He is learning to manage his breathing and distract his mind. We try to become more creative about methods of distraction, but we aren’t always successful! I have learned a LOT about the superheroes in his imagination. That mind of his is vast!

He reads each card and each comment that is sent (and so do we.) These make him smile. The prayers are the real work and the sure help and we are ever so grateful and beyond thankful for you; for taking the time for GP and for us. IT MATTERS. ALL OF YOU MATTER.

  1. I had no idea how horrendous his condition is. I couldn’t even bear to watch the video of his suffering. My heart goes out to all of you- to George Paul who has to endure such pain for so long and to his loved ones who have to watch him suffer, helpless to take away the pain. You are all in our prayers.

  2. Hi GP! I appreciate your mom updating this for me. I have been starving for info about you. I have been on-line since we last ‘spoke’ and have done some research…apparently, you are one of the very, very few kids who have this–I wish I could change this! I always you were one in a million, but really????!!! Sarah’s friend from the coffee shop in AV has this, but she is about 6X as old as you. My specific prayer for you today is that you will get some relief–down from a 7 to a 0 or 1 would be great. I am also praying for your mom, dad and sister that they would continue to be strengthened by the Lord and buoyed by the circle of friends and loved ones who care so much for all of you!
Have a blessed Easter! I’ll be checking in often now! 😉
