Ups and Downs   1 comment

We will be going to the dentist in a few minutes. It is important to rule out any problem with GeorgePaul’s teeth, so we will be getting a full set of x-rays done. He is having a tough time this morning, which follows the pattern from yesterday afternoon. He is very emotional and is having frequent rises (every 4 minutes or so). He had 2 epics yesterday, and one so far today.

GP’s blood test results came in and the readings are all within the normal range. These included electrolyte serum (sodium, postassium, chloride, and co2), liver panel, vitamin B12, folate, and carbamazepine (Tegretol). The B12 and Folate were a slight bit above the normal range. We have been supplementing his diet with a B complex vitamin, but the numbers show that he could not have been deficient in B12 before we started the vitamins. This was something we wanted to rule out, as a B12 deficiency has been noted as a problem that looks like trigeminal neuralgia.

The carbamazepine was at the lowest therapeutic level, so the neurologist asked us to bump the dosage up to 150mg of Tegretol, 3 times a day. We started this at 1:30pm yesterday, and it may account for the emotions that we are seeing in GP. We also hope that this will give him so more relief at some point. The medicine builds up in his system, so we won’t see a difference for a few days.

Thank you for your responses to us. We feel loved and cared for – and GeorgePaul is amazed at the generosity and care he is experiencing.
